Data readiness for the GIR: a source-data checklist
Most GIR delays are not caused by unclear rules but by data that is scattered and has no owner. Preparing for the GloBE Information Return starts with a map of sources, not with the form. Here is a checklist to start from.
Financial and consolidation data
- Group consolidation packages (revenue, profit before tax, taxes) from one auditable source.
- Consolidation adjustments and intra-group eliminations - who calculates them and where they live.
- FX policy and translation timing - consistent across the whole group.
Tax data
- Current and deferred tax per entity, mapped to GloBE definitions.
- Disputed items and prior-year adjustments - how they are classified.
- Local minimum taxes (QDMTT) in the jurisdictions where they apply.
Entity and structure data
- A current register of constituent entities with jurisdiction and role.
- Ultimate parent (UPE) and intermediate parent status.
- Structural changes during the year (acquisitions, disposals, reorganisations).
Safe Harbour and SBIE data
- Tangible asset values and payroll costs (for the substance carve-out).
- Asset base policy (PPA vs standalone) - agreed and documented.
A pattern that works. Every data source should have three things: an owner (who is responsible), a cadence (when it is refreshed) and an audit trail (where the number came from). Without those, the GIR turns into firefighting just before the deadline.
For many groups the next hard deadline is the GIR for FY2024: 30 June 2026. Source mapping should be finished well ahead, because it sets the pace of everything that follows.
